Removal of a distal catheter

Deborah h Posted Thu 26th of March, 2015 09:36:30 AM

If the complete shunt system wasn't removed, but the ventricular catheter was replaced and the distal end of the catheter was removed, how would you code this?

Please disregard previously question; actually the whole shunt system was taken out and two ventricular catheters were inserted; can you code 62258-52 since two ventricular catheter were placed and there was a lot more work than just 62225 only?

If the physician removes a complete cerebrospinal fluid shunt system and if the shunt system is replaced during the same operation then report CPT code 62258.
