Rectovaginal fistula Plug

Lee Posted Wed 23rd of May, 2012 20:18:54 PM

Physican performed a Plugging of a rectovaginal fistula. I wanted to use the 57305 but it was repaired with plug only. Please help.

The only codes available are 57300 or 57305. Select the most appropriate code based on the approach.

One nearest code I would prefer is 46707 that is specifically for Plug.

58999 is the only choice left. But I would still prefer using 57300 or 57305 based on approach. The physician may use a tissue graft taken from an adjacent part of the body, or fold a flap of healthy tissue over the fistula opening. He may also address damage to the anal sphincter muscles or scarring or tissue damage from radiation or Crohn's disease. One way of repairing is Plug also. Still better rather going for an unlisted.
