Questionable Hernia Repair

Annie Posted Tue 28th of April, 2015 16:39:00 PM

Patient presented for a laparoscopic ventral hernia repair. There was weakness in the umbilical area and a hole in the linea alba but no definite hernia. A piece of mesh was selected and sutured to the abdominal wall. Do I code this as 49654, not sure of the correct code selection

Use CPT code 49654, if it is a incisional hernia. And if it is a Ventral hernia (Not Incisional), use CPT 49652. Both the codes includes Mesh Insertion procedure, so not bill for mesh insertion separately.
