Can Zingo be used as a preferred medication for anestesia in office/surgery center using the CPT 01992? If yes, can the Zingo also be billed as a J or under NDC by the doc as medication used?

Generally Zingo (Lidocaine HCl) is used as a local anesthetic. It is billed as HCPCS code J2001. Most of the payers do not allow separate reimbursement for local aesthetics. Also remember local or topical anesthesia is bundled and included in all CPT's surgical packages and is not a billable service for Medicare or most private carriers.
