provider performs ORIF to ribs and placement of Q- catheter placement. can we bill Q- catheter separetely and what is the code for Q- cath placement.

Hello Amy,

Thank you for your question.

 

Per NCCI Policy Manual, Medicare Global Surgery Rules prevent separate payment for postoperative pain management when provided by the physician performing an operative procedure.

 

Hence, if the Q-catheter was placed for postoperative pain management during the operative session at the surgical site, then do not report separately. It will be considered inclusive in the ORIF of Rib procedure.
