PV Isolation for Atrial Tachycardia

Cindy Posted Mon 07th of April, 2014 12:21:24 PM

If the pulmonary veins are re-isolated due to atrial tachycardia do you bill the "93653" or "93656"? The codes are based off the arrhythmia and that would make difference on what add on codes I could bill.

Try to confirm with the provider that the diagnosis is atrial fibrillation (the type of atrial tachycardia typically associated with PVI). Code 93656 should be the appropriate choice for this service.

With regard to the term “re-isolated,” keep in mind that clean-up work at the same session following the ablation isn’t separately reportable, but medically necessary ablations at a separate, later session may be reportable if the problem recurs.
