Purchased joint/trigger point injection kits

Julie Posted Fri 21st of November, 2014 10:12:44 AM

Have you heard of the Enovachem, “EZ Joint Tunnel & Trigger Kit”? It is a kit that includes pre-measured syringe of cortisone, lidocaine, adhesive bandages and gloves. They are suggesting to us that we bill for it with an unlisted code and that we charge quite a bit more money than a “usual” cortisone injection. I am very confused. If a company pre-packages these types of things and gives the kit an NDC number (76420-0524-01), does this trump NCCI edits?

Thanks for your patience while we researched this question. Using the unlisted procedure code would not be appropriate for this kit. Even with an approved NDC number for the kit you still have to comply with CCI guidelines. In this situation you should only bill for your injection and the other items will be considered bundled into the injection. Hope this helps.

Yes, thank you, that is very helpful. That was my feeling about it too but I thought you might have additional information. I do so appreciate being able to run things by you in this way.

Thanks again!
