PT Evaluation-Prolonged

Taylor Posted Thu 26th of March, 2015 16:59:06 PM

Our Physical Therapist did an Initial Evaluation on a patient with 5 different diagnoses. The IE took over two hours. Is there any way to report 97001 with a modifier or with multiple units or an add on code that can be used to bill for the prolonged amount of time it took to complete the evaluation? Please advise.

Thanks,
Brandi

Hi, you cannot bill multiple unit of CPT code 97001. But you can bill modifier -21 for Prolonged evaluation and management services with it. Also, do not forget to required documentation to support your CPT code and modifier.
