Annette Posted Thu 26th of March, 2020 11:54:34 AM
What CPT would you assign to Prostate, Transurethral resection, specimen. Thank you
SuperCoder Answered Fri 27th of March, 2020 06:09:51 AM

Hi Annette,

Please use below mentioned CPT codes as per your scenario:

88307 - For surgical pathology of prostate except radical resection.

88309 - For surgical pathology of prostate removed through radical resection.

If prostate has been removed through radical resection, use CPT code 88309 or else for other removal procedures for prostate, use CPT code 88307.

Thanks!

The gross states prostate chips; would that make a difference? Thanks

Hi Annette,

Pathology code here would be decided on the basis of the method used to remove the prostate.

If the prostate chips were removed through radical resection, use pathology CPT code 88309. If the prostate chips were removed through procedure other than radical resection, then use CPT code 88307.

Thanks!
