Prophylactic Plating

L Posted Sun 01st of November, 2015 22:38:16 PM

How would I code the following:
DIAGNOSIS: Osteochondroma with fibula erosion and impending fibula fracture, right distal tibia.

1.Exostectomy of osteochondroma with biopsy, right distal fibula.
2.Prophylactic plating of impending fibula fracture, right.
3.Harvest of proximal tibial autograft through separate incision and packing of the distal fibular defect, right.

I'm thinking 27637 and 20900 but not sure about procedure 2.

Thanks for your question.

CPT code choice 27637 is correct for exostectomy of osteochondroma with biopsy and harvesting of autograft. There is no specific CPT code for prophylactic plating procedure, so we will use CPT 27899 (Unlisted procedure) for this. We will not code 20900 separately because 27637 including harvesting as well.
