Pressure measurement monitoring of the sinus and veins

Leorah Posted Tue 14th of May, 2019 04:49:11 AM
Along with performing a diagnostic cerebral angiogram which included 36224(RT), 36224(LT), 36226(RT), and 36226(LT) the report states that the superior sagittal sinus, torcula, right transverse, right sigmoid, right internal jugular vein. left transverse, left sigmoid and left internal jugular vein pressures were monitored and recorded. What do I code for all the monitoring and pressure testing? In addition there were a few angiograms after the pressure measurement. Can I code those? Thanks

Hi Leorah,

Thanks for your question.

For venous pressure, code 93770 (Determination of venous pressure) should be used. This procedure is used to assess the state of the cardiovascular system in a patient with a critical illness. The provider performs noninvasive measurement of venous pressure by applying a pressure manometer connected to an ultrasound transducer over a vein. But please note that this code has a code status of “B” which means the payment for these services are always bundled into the payment for other services. MUE for this code is “0” which means you may report this code as many times as required.

We request you to please correlate this with the medical record and bill accordingly.

Please feel free to write if you have any question.

Can I code the angiogram's (75898) as well?

How do I code many 93770 codes? Do I increase the unit amount or separate line items with 59 modifiers?
SuperCoder Answered Fri 17th of May, 2019 08:57:25 AM

MUE for code 93770 is “0”, which means you may report this code as many times as required based on the medical necessity. Since there is no CCI edits, angiograms can also be reported.

Hope this helps.

When you say that this code has a code status of "B" does that mean it would get bundled into the catheterization codes of the diagnostic cerebral angiogram?

Yes, payment for this code is alway bundled into payment for other services.
