If a patient comes back for a PPD reading, what diagnosis and CPT code is used for the reading of it? Please help

PPD testing results are read 48-72 hours after administering the skin test. This will require another office visit and evaluation of the results to determine whether it is negative or positive. Because a patient may not return for the reading, 86850’s relative value units do not include the work of reading the test, according to Medicare.
The answer to whether you code for the reading depends on the situation -- and on whom you ask. Some coders say the PPD reading is inclusive, which means you should not code it separately from the initial test.
Other coders say a negative PPD reading is inclusive, but a positive PPD reading is worth coding separately. Suppose a nurse does the reading, some offices choose to report the service using this E/M code 99211.
In addition, if the results are positive, you use 795.5 -- Nonspecific reaction to tuberculin test without active tuberculosis but If it is negative, then continue using V74.1.
But, If you have doubts about how to code this scenario, check with your carrier.
