Postpartum endometritis

Misty Posted Mon 08th of August, 2016 15:47:11 PM
My provider did a delivery for a patient while on call and I'm billing 59409 only since not our patient. The patient started having complications during hospital postpartum for endometritis. My provider thinks we should charge extra for this for the extra care of the patient for her fever, ordering antibiotics, and other medical. Would this all be included in the delivery only charges or would there be more I could charge and indicate with a modifier 22? Thanks

As per the documentation, your provider has performed Delivery and provided Postpartum care as well. To bill for both the services, use CPT code 59410 (Vaginal delivery only (with or without episiotomy and/or forceps); including postpartum care).
