Posterior Fusion w/ Interspinous Plating

Nicole Posted Thu 12th of October, 2017 07:53:25 AM
The doctor did a Laminectomy from T5-T8 (63046, 63048x3). He also performed a posterior fusion with interspinous plating only from T5-T8. Is there a CPT code for this procedure or would I have to use the Unlisted code 22899? If that is the case (having to use the Unlisted code) would I only report that once or would I report it for each segment or by interspace?

There is specific cpt code 22610 Arthrodesis, posterior or posterolateral technique, single level; thoracic (with lateral transverse technique, when performed for posterior fusion with interspinous plating .

Hope this helps!

What if there is no mention of Biologics used. It just states the plate was used as a fixation device.

The device or plate inserted over the spinal level being fused includes an enclosure in which bone graft material is placed. To support bone graft spinal instrumentation like plates or screw are placed. Hence, use code for spinal instrumentation for this type of procedures. There are no specific codes for spinal instrumentation using the spinous process fixation orthoses. The appropriate code for reporting this procedure is 22899 along with arthodesis cpt code.

Hope this helps!
