POST OPP VISIT

Shade Posted Wed 30th of April, 2014 15:28:27 PM

PT. CAME IN FOR POST OPP SUTURE REMOVAL. I KNOW THIS CANNOT BE BILLED BUT IF PT. VISIT AN URGENT CARE CENTER FOR SUTURE REMOVAL, CAN THAT CENTER BILL FOR THE ENCOUNTER?.

The simple laceration repair codes now have a zero day global period so if they return to the provider for suture removal, it is no longer bundled into the original procedure. That is not true of intermediate and complex laceration repairs which still bundle in the suture removal into their global periods. The global period is not changed by site of service. In your example, the urgent care could charge a low level E/M service to check the wound and remove the sutures.
