Post operative care

Kathy k Posted Tue 05th of March, 2019 10:54:34 AM
When a primary surgeon (A) from a different practice performs a global surgery and a surgeon (B) from our practice does the assist, but another surgeon (C) from our same practice did the post op follow up care with transfer of care documented from the primary surgeon (A), can our surgeon (C) bill for post op care with a modifier -55 even though our surgeon (B) did the assist?

Thanks for your question.

As per the general coding guidelines modifier 55 will be appended with the scenario you have mentioned above. Also, we need to check whether the modifier 55 is applicable with the CPT code you have billed with the procedure.

Hope this helps.
