Post Op Visits

Rick Posted Tue 07th of July, 2015 15:09:32 PM

Is it fraud if the doctor decides not to perform the post op visit? Is the post op visit included in the reimbursement for CPT 69436? Is the reimbursement different for 69436 with the post op visit or without the post op visit?

Well, global period for CPT 69436 is 10 days, which performed under surgical package. The global surgical package concept includes the pre-operative, intra-operative and post-operative services, and are considered included in the specific CPT code. Post-operative services includes: Immediate postoperative care, including dictation, post-operative notes, talking with the family and other physicians, Writing orders, Evaluating the patient in the post- anesthesia recovery area, Typical uncomplicated post-operative care. So in that case it is necessary to perform uncomplicated post-op visit. Hope it helps!
