pneumonitis

Mary Posted Wed 09th of March, 2011 20:38:51 PM

What ICD-9 CODE do you use for pneumonitis? I had been using "486" but one of our physicians disagreed with this - can anyone else out there relate to this?

The ICD 9-CM book shows the description like this:
Pneumonitis (acute)(primary)(see also Pneumonia) 486

Under this there are different classifications, and codes are assigned for different types of pneumonitis(or pneumonia).

You need to ask your physician, what type of pneumonitis he wants to code. If it is only Pneumonitis then appropriate code is 486.
