Place of Service for 99234-99236

Lynne Posted Wed 24th of October, 2012 16:48:45 PM

We are having an issue with the POS for this code range.
If a patient is in Observation care for 11 hours but discharged on the same date, and code (99234) was used what would be the proper POS.
Will you provide documentation as well, thank you.

Hi Lynne,

I am confused over 99324 or 99234.Please clarify.

Thanks

A moment of dyslexia, I was thinking 99234 but I typed 99324. The code that I need Place of Service on is the 99234-99236.
Sorry for the confusion.

Let the physician’s documentation drive the appropriate place of service. If a patient was in observation, then use POS 22. But if the patient was actually admitted and discharged on the same day, then go with POS 21.
