place of service code for ED

Donna Posted Wed 10th of October, 2012 18:46:45 PM

Our ophthalmologist was requested by the ED doctor to go to ED to evaluate a patient. I will use the emergency room visit codes, but what is the place of service. Outpatient hospital?

The place of service code assigned to “emergency room” must be entered when the service is provided in a hospital emergency room department whether the physician is an emergency room staff physician or not.
