Can CPT PLA CODE 0031U and 0032U be billed for other labs apart from Mayo clinic
SuperCoder Answered Tue 28th of January, 2020 02:17:28 AM

Hi Apurva,

Thanks for your question.

Use code 0032U only for the appropriate proprietary test, the Catechol-O-methyltransferase (COMT) Genotype from the Mayo Clinic; report one unit of this code for a single specimen analyzed on a single date of service.

Use code 0031U only for the appropriate proprietary test, Cytochrome P450 1A2 Genotype from the Mayo Clinic; report one unit of this code for a single specimen analyzed on a single date of service.

These tests are not yet approved by the FDA, and that may affect payment. Some payers may pay separately for collection of the specimen. Please check with the appropriate payer. We advise you not to bill other payers unless there is more information regarding that.

Hope this helps.

Thanks.
