garivo06 Posted Tue 08th of May, 2018 12:55:07 PM
OP Note reads : cervix injected with indocyanine green it was seen bilaterally in the pelvic nodal stations. Sentinel node were dissected but in addition non sentinel were taken to complete lymphadenectomy. The pathology report only shows left obturator sentinel node right external iliac sentinel node, right paraoartic sentinel node left pelvic node Would this be considered sentinel node bx cpt 38570 or lymphadenectomy 38572 Thank you for your help.

As per above documentation provider is performing complete lymphadenectomy. The bilateral external iliac, internal iliac (hypogastric), and obturator nodes are all part of a pelvic lymphadenectomy, so the appropriate code will be 38572.

The surgeon or other physician may also report the injection and mapping procedure CPT 38900 Intraoperative identification (eg, mapping) of sentinel lymph node(s) includes injection of non-radioactive dye, when performed, if he or she uses special dyes, i.e. blue dye, to help visualize the targeted or sentinel node.
