Partial gastectomy?

Annie Posted Mon 24th of November, 2014 20:16:04 PM

The physician excised only a portion of the greater curvature of the stomach that contained a perforation. He submitted to pathology a specimen labeled perforated ulcer. Would that be coded to 43610. I dont think this qualifies as a partial gastectomy. He also biopsied a mesenteric abscess. I think the abscess biopsy would be incidental to the procedure for perforated viscus? If not how would the biopsy of the abscess be coded.

Yes code 43610 would be appropriate for above scenario and mesenteric abscess biopsy would be incidental.

Thanks !!
