Does the code 33208 include sedation? Getting a denial on a 99152 with 33208 as included in payment for other service
SuperCoder Answered Wed 20th of February, 2019 03:05:45 AM

Hello Sonya,

Thank you for your question.

Sedation is not included in CPT® code 33208.

According to general coding guidelines for NCCI " Medicare allows separate reporting for moderate conscious sedation services (CPT® codes 99151-99157) when provided by the same physician performing a medical or surgical procedure" So, you can bill CPT® code 99152 with CPT® code 33208.

There are chances that CPT® code 99152 might be getting bundled in other services performed on the billed date of service apart from CPT® code 33208.

Kindly provide us with the denial reason code for CPT® 99152.
