Orthoptist Billing

Lovell Posted Wed 16th of October, 2013 12:15:06 PM

Can an Orthoptist bill separately as a provider or must the work the Orthoptist perform be billed under the Ophthalmologist?

This is a payer issue. Providers must request and receive prior authorization from the payer for Orthoptic Therapy/Visual Training Services. Once authorization is received, they will tell you if the Orthoptist must bill Incident-to the Ophthalmologist which is often the case.
