Oncologist requesting exam of Upper & Lower GI tract prior to starting therapy

Robyn Posted Thu 07th of May, 2015 15:24:01 PM

I have a MCR pt recently diagnosed with lymphoma whose oncologist reqested exam of upper & lower GI tract prior to starting therapy. For the colonoscopy would I code this as V76.51 or use the lymphoma as the diagnosis/reason for procedure? Or is there a code for pre-treatment or due to referral? Thank you.

Well, you can use V76.51 when there is no need for any therapeutic intervention during the colonoscopy.
