Office procedure

Provider states removal of surgical implant and codes it as 11721. The provider rights implant was grasped with Kelly forceps after the foot was prepped. The implant was delivered through the distal toe opening without further incising the skin. He states in commnet form x-ray that the implant is protruding through the distal tip of the toe.

11721 is used for nail debridement. The description of the procedure is Debridement is performed to remove abnormal, diseased, or infected nail.
This particular code is for the debridement of up to 5 nails and does not sound like what was performed.

The code 20670 for removal of implant superficial appears to be more appropriate for the case you have describes. The description of the procedure is removal of implant; superficial (eg, buried wire, pin or rod).

Hope this helps.
