Does anyone know how I can get the insurance companies to pay for 90473?

In this procedure, the provider administers a live attenuated vaccine through intranasal or oral route. Check your mode of billing because most of the coders bill it wrongly. Here are some misconception and tips to bill it: Codes 90471 (Immunization administration [includes percutaneous, intradermal, subcutaneous, or intramuscular injections]; one vaccine [single or combination vaccine/toxoid]) and 90473 (Immunization administration by intranasal or oral route; one vaccine [single or combination vaccine/toxoid]) are for initial immunization administration. You cannot report both together. "Do not report 90473 in conjunction with 90471," according to CPT's parenthetical instruction after 90473, otherwise it will lead to denial.
