OB ultrasound in office

Annie Posted Tue 17th of November, 2015 13:39:28 PM

We will be starting to do ultrasounds in house. When those patients come in do we bill only the seven hundred code with the TC modifier and 26 modifier if read in office?

TC Modifier is appended for technical component whereas 26 modifier is appended for professional component. therefore use TC modifier for technician who is performing ultrasound and 26 modifier is used when the ultrasound report is read and interpreted by the physician.

If provider has equipment in office and interpretes the ultrasound do you bill the cpt twice with the TC and 26 for example charge would say 76801-TC and 76801-26 on same encounter.

yes, both the modifiers (26 and TC) can be billed with CPT code 76801.
