Which codes would we use for Remote Patient Monitoring if the Dietitian is reviewing electronic food logs that are updated daily by the patient (weekly/ monthly) for patients referred for a 3 month and 6 month supervised diet.

Thank you for your question.

As per the above documentation CPT code 99091 {Collection and interpretation of physiologic data (eg, ECG, blood pressure, glucose monitoring) digitally stored and/or transmitted by the patient and/or caregiver to the physician or other qualified health care professional, qualified by education, training, licensure/regulation (when applicable) requiring a minimum of 30 minutes of time, each 30 days} seems appropriate. But this code is not a telemedicine CPT code.

Telemedicine code 97803 (Medical nutrition therapy; initial assessment and intervention, individual, face-to-face with the patient, each 15 minutes) more specific to nutrition therapy code . Hence, if the service performed through Synchronous telemedicine service then the CPT code 97803 would be best choice of code for the above scenario.

Hope this Helps!

Since the provider is only reviewing data that the patient has sent in remotely AND not seeing the patient telephonically wouldn't it be appropriate to use the 99091 to bill? The provider is not seeing the patient so the 97803 would not apply, right since this code is for "face-to-face" encounters?

Thank you for your Question!

Yes, if the provider is only reviewing data remotely then the CPT code 99091 would be appropriate. CPT code 97803 was suggestive if provider has performed any telephonic service along with reviewing of data.

Hope this Helps!
