Non healing pilonidal cyst/abscess

Cristina Posted Mon 19th of October, 2015 16:27:33 PM

Patient had a complicated pilonidal cyst(i.e., cysts with multiple subcutaneous roots, recurrence, with severe infective condition, etc.). Surgery was done and we used 11772 and a wound vac was placed and now has to come back for wound vac therapy so if the patient has to return to the operating room because the wound is not healing how can i code this? What icd 10 would best describe this scenario?

Thanks for your question.

If the patient comes in only for wound VAC changes, we will code this scenario with CPT 97605 with ICD-10 code T81.89X(A,D, or S) along with a secondary code for the complication/manifestation.

And if the patient also has necrotic tissue and has to be debrided how would you code the procedure and ICD10?

You should report this repair using CPT 13160 with ICD-10 code T81.31XA.
