Can CPT 81420,81422 and 0009M be billed together on the same claim
SuperCoder Answered Fri 12th of July, 2019 10:01:26 AM

Thanks for your question.

As per the NCCI edits there are no CCI edits which suggests that the codes can be billed together. However, based on the documentation of medical record the CPT codes should be supported.

Code 81422 is for genomic sequence analysis of circulating cell–free fetal DNA in maternal blood for chromosomal microdeletion(s), and is distuiguished from 81420 which is a similar procedure used to evaluate fetal chromosomal aneuploidy, which is an abnormal chromosome number such as trisomy 21. Based on this please check whether the procedures are done analyse and evaluate the abnormality of chromosomes.

Code 0009M the lab analyst performs the technical lab tests to detect fetal trisomies 18 and 21 in the maternal plasma during pregnancy using DNA sequence analysis and carries out an algorithmic analysis using patient data and the lab test results to report a patient risk score for each trisomy.

Hope this helps.
