Newborn Exam and Diagnosis code

Charles Posted Tue 30th of April, 2013 15:23:28 PM

I submitted a bill for a newborn patient using 99381 and Dx code V20.2. it was denied due to dx code not appropriate for patient's age. Patient was 5 days old and when seen for an exam. How should this have been coded?

Hi there! Your payer may prefer that you report V20.31 (Health supervision for newborn under 8 days old). Thank you!
