Nerve Conduction Study- counting digit II & IV as one.

Luz Posted Mon 22nd of June, 2015 11:58:20 AM

I need your input on the following: The physician did a NCS and documented the following: Motor_ Median R(Wrist,Elbow), Median & Ulnar R (Lumbrical II, 2DI), Medial L (Wrist,Elbow), Median & Ulnar L.(Lumbrical II, 2 DI), Ulnar L. (Wrist, Below Elbow,Above Elbow); Senssory Sural R( Mid calf), Superficial peroneal R(Lower leg), Median R (Digit II,DigitIV), Medial L (Digit II, DigitIV, Ulnar L ( Digit V)and billed 95911, 9-10 Studies. Shouldn't this be billed as 95912-11-12 studies. The physician is not counting digit IV in Median R & L. She said the recording is in the same place. I think it can be counted. Your input is appreciated,

I have counted above mentioned nerves. there are around 14 nerves (both motor and sensory) examined except Median R and L (Digit V) which is not the correct branch of median nerve. You should use CPT code 95913 (Nerve conduction studies; 13 or more studies)
