Thanks for your question. 92540; Basic vestibular evaluation, includes spontaneous nystagmus test with eccentric gaze fixation nystagmus, with recording, positional nystagmus test, minimum of 4 positions, with recording, optokinetic nystagmus test, bidirectional foveal and peripheral stimulation, with recording, and oscillating tracking test, with recording. Procedure code 92540 includes the following codes:
• 92541 -- Spontaneous nystagmus tests, including gaze and fixation nystagmus, with recording;
• 92542 -- Positional nystagmus test, minimum of 4 positions, with recording;
• 92544 -- Optokinetic nystagmus test, bidirectional,foveal or peripheral stimulation, with recording; and
• 92545 -- Oscillating tracking test, with recording..
You can no longer report any combination of two or more of the above codes for the same date of service. During this service, the provider performs four specific tests, with recording, to check balance disorders. This code represents both the technical and professional components of the service.
99241-99248 can only be performed by a licensed audiologists with a physician’s order, by a licensed physician, or other provider licensed to practice medicine under the personal supervision of an appropriate physician. Audiologic testing which includes hearing and balance assessment can be performed by a physician or a qualified audiologist.
