Our nurse practitioner wrote "I insterted an IV heplock into this patient and gave her 500ml bolus of nss and 12.5mg IV phenergan." How do we code this?

It is appropriate to report 96374 for a bolus or IV injection of pre-packaged fluids such as lactated ringers. Consider fluids (whether pre-packaged or mixed) and specific drugs as therapeutic, unless staff use them as a carrier solution or to keep the vein.Report 96374 or 96375 as appropriate for an IV injection of pre-packaged solutions for a medically necessary reason.
