I have a patient that had a Endo necrosectomy done and there was a previous stent found in the gastric body and duodenal bulb that were both removed at time of necrosectomy. Can we bill foreign body removal for stent removal since it is in another area then where the necrosectomy was done or not? I have been told ALL stent removed or placed are bundled with the necrosectomy no matter what location .

Thank you for your question.
As per the above documentation, stent was found in the gastric body and duodenal bulb which was removed during the same operative session of endoscopic necrosectomy.
This (stent removal) will be considered a part of procedure as stent lodged in the way (i.e. gastric body/ duodenal bulb) need to be removed in order to perform the endoscopic necrosectomy; hence, won’t be paid separately.
Hope that helps!
