NDC Numbers

Nancy Posted Tue 29th of March, 2011 17:12:37 PM

I have never had this question asked by a provider so maybe you can help me. Are NDC numbers the same for a particular drug regardless of the manufacturer or are they manufacturer specific? Thanks

NDC code has three components of which the first segment justifies that it is manufacturer specific.
First segment: is the labeler code that identifies any firm that manufactures, repacks/distributes a drug product.
Second segment: is the product code. It identifies the strength, dosage form and formulation.
Third segment is the package code. This segment identifies package size.
