Hello, Please let me know if there is a code we may be missing for Muscle Strains. They are sent home with medication and ice packs furnished. Thanks
SuperCoder Answered Thu 13th of April, 2017 03:02:28 AM

Greetings from!

When you search term “strain”, it instructs you to “see Injury, muscle, by site, strain”. For example if the patient has muscle strain of right shoulder, you should search it in this way:

Injury --> Muscle --> Shoulder --> Strain

You will see the code S46.91- . Now choose code S46.911 for right shoulder and choose your final code S46.911A for initial encounter.

This is the way to look for a code via index search. Please search your code as per your documentation.

Please feel free to write if you have any concern or questions.

Thanks so much. So there is not a CPT 4 code?
SuperCoder Answered Fri 14th of April, 2017 07:39:15 AM

If you need CPT codes, there are two CPT codes to report in this scenario i.e. E/M codes from 99201-99215 series and another code is 97010 (Application of a modality to 1 or more areas; hot or cold packs)
