Modifier 58

Jane Posted Thu 22nd of March, 2012 15:28:45 PM

Our physician performed a EGD 43239 for patient complaint dysphagia. Found gastritis and esophageal stricture. Performed unplanned esophageal dilation, can we bill the additional service 43450 with modifier 58 or would it be more appropriate to use modifier 59 since the dilation was not related to the gastritis found on the EGD?

This has been done in the same operative session, no need of 58 modifier. Simply Bill it with 43239 and 43450 with relevant Dx. There is no CCI edits between them, so no 59.
