Does a modifier 26 always need to be added when a lumbar puncture (62270) is performed by the surgeon either in office or hospital?

Modifier 26 is not allowed with 62270. it is also known as spinal tap, lumbar puncture is a diagnostic procedure wherein a sample of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) is collected for analysis.
CPT modifier -26 represents the professional (provider) component of a service or procedure and includes the provider work, associated overhead and professional liability insurance costs. This modifier corresponds to the human involvement in a given service or procedure.
