Moderate sedation codes 99155-99157

Judy Posted Mon 20th of February, 2017 09:57:47 AM
We are administering moderate sedation during our GI procedures. An RN is administering and monitoring the sedation under the supervision of the physician while he is performing the endoscopy. We know the facility will charge for codes 99155-99157. Our question is if the physician can also bill these codes?

Hi

Yes, codes 99155-99157 are billed by the physician. Also, please check your payer preference for same. Thank you.

When running our endoscopy codes and the 99155-99157 thru the CCI edits check on Supercoder it is bundling the moderate sedation codes in with the procedure.

Hi

Since these are newly added codes in moderate sedation effective Jan 2017. We would like to know endoscopy codes with which you are giving moderate sedation. In some cases even modifier cannot overrule bundling. Please follow links below for further assistance. Thank you.
