If a family member acts as the interpereter, can Mod 93 be used?

Yes, it can be. As per worker compensation forums. modifier -93 can be used if family members, friends, physician's staff, or a professional interpreter is interpreting.
As per California Worker's compensation, AAPC Chapter Meeting, April 16, 2009, OMFS pays 10% premium above E/M fee schedule fee for use of interpreter. Documentation must indicate first and last name of interpreter. No requirement for who the interpreter can be.
