Micro fracture of humeral head

Nicole Posted Sun 20th of September, 2015 13:44:44 PM

If the doctor was doing a SLAP repair and also did a micro fracture of the humeral head would that be considered the unlisted procedure code 29999? There was chondroplasty of the glenohumeral joint. Or would the micro fracture be part of the 29823?

Yes, for micro fracture of the humeral head, you should use CPT code 29823 and for SLAP repair, code . But NCCI edits states "CMS considers the shoulder joint to be a single anatomic structure. An NCCI procedure to procedure edit code pair consisting of two codes describing two shoulder joint procedures should never be bypassed with an NCCI-associated modifier when performed on the ipsilateral shoulder joint. This type of edit may be bypassed only if the two procedures are performed on contralateral joints." So, you cannot bill these 2 codes together when done on same side. Bill CPT code 29807 only.
