Mastectomy with axillary dissection

E. maria Posted Wed 03rd of June, 2015 01:09:11 AM

Patient with recurrent breast cancer underwent mastectomy, simple, complete and completion of axillary dissection. Previously a year ago, she had undergone a partial mastectomy and axillary node biopsy CPT codes 19301 and 38525.

Will it be appropriate to bill 19303 and 38745 for the completion of axillary dissection?

Well, yes, it is correct to code CPT 19303 for mastectomy, simple, complete and CPT 38745 complete axillary lymphadenectomy. Use modifier 59 with CPT 38745 as there is CCI edits relationship between both.
