Malone Procedure

Sonnia Posted Tue 14th of February, 2017 10:16:51 AM
Is the Mitrofanoff and Malone procedure the same? And do you use CPT code 50845 for either one?
SuperCoder Answered Wed 15th of February, 2017 04:41:23 AM

Mitrofanoff Procedure is basically a bladder surgical procedure usually involving the use the appendix, ureter or some other tubular structure to create a stoma that can be catheterized for emptying the bladder.

Malone or MACE (Malone Antegrade Continence Enema) procedure is a type of bowel surgery involving the creation of a stoma with a channel through the abdominal wall into the colon to enable bowel washouts.

CPT code 50845 can be used for Mitrofanoff procedure.

Hope this helps. Thank you.
