ICD Z12.2 is not an accepted code on Supercoder. What is the correct code to use with G0297 to reflect lung cancer screening?Thank You

Thank you for your question.

 

ICD Z12.2 is an unacceptable principal diagnosis for inpatient admission per Medicare Code Edits (MCE); which means if the patient is admitted in the hospital, then this ICD cannot be reported as a primary diagnosis.

Note: Medicare will deny claims for this preventive service that do not contain a diagnosis code for a personal history of tobacco use or nicotine dependence.

If the procedure (G0297) was performed in the outpatient setting, then you can report ICD Z12.2
