Lumbosacral laminectomy/parial S1 vertebrectomy, for tethered cord release

Deborah h Posted Sat 07th of November, 2015 18:54:45 PM

I know you would code 63200 for laminectomy, with release of tethered spinal cord, lumbar, but if a partial S1 vertebrectomy was also done; are you able to code for that and if so, what cpt code would you use, and should a modifier be added because it was for a partial S1 vertebrectomy? Also, what diagnosis code would you assign for lumbosacral subluxation?

Hi Deborah,

The nearest CPT code for S1 vertebrectomy that I found is 63090, but this is for decompression of spinal cord, cauda equina or nerve root(s), so I am not sure this would be appropriate code for this procedure.

I would prefer to code this service with CPT 64999 (unlisted procedure).

When we are going by index, this is leading us to ICD-10 S33.101A code (Dislocation of unspecified lumbar vertebra, initial encounter).
