lower extremities AP views only

Debbie Posted Wed 17th of October, 2012 18:08:14 PM

I have a order for alignment standing mechanical axis
the report states AP view both lower extremities.
We have been billing both femurs and both tib/fibs with mod 52
Is this correct??

Yes. You should report 73550 (Radiologic examination, femur, two views) with modifier 52 (Reduced services) to inform the payer that the physician performed a service that is a reduced version of what the code describes.

This applies to 73590-52 also.
