Low anterior resection

Candace Posted Wed 22nd of February, 2017 15:30:53 PM
A lower midline incision from umbilicus down to pubis was made dissecting through subcutaneous tissue. Upon entering the abdominal cavity using the Bookwalter retractor and slight Trendelenburg position we were able to isolate out the rectal region. We then transected the proximal rectum with a GIA-75 stapler, harmonic scalpel and electrocautery used to dissect down to the sacrum and the presacral region using sharp dissection. We identified both ureters, preserved them in their entirety. We then fired a contour stapler across the very distal rectum. We then opened our specimen on the backtable, we had adequate margins of the palpable lesion. We then used a 25 mm EEA device and placed up the anus into the rectal pouch with a pursestring of the anvil and the distal sigmoid colon. We then fired it a performed an EEA anasomosis. We insufflated through the rectum with the colon occluded to the cross air over our anastomosis under water with no evidence of leak. I am trying to locate a code for this procedure.

Hi,

As per the above documentation the appropriate CPT code would be 44145.
